Breaking Gold Series
Breaking Gold series is a collection of works by Sofi Gaya that follows her Golden Walls series. Her imagination and hope have led her to the next phase of her life. She keeps her dance and smile, now that she comes face to face with the golden shackles. She uses gold jewlery as a metaphor for the chains of society that have bogged and tied her down as a female. With a smile on their faces, her women break away these gold shackles in an esctatic dance. It is her first series using 24Karat Gold leaf. Spray, acrylic, markers add depth and interest while Oil remains her main medium at play.
Im gonna shake shake shake
You’re gonna break break break
my bones may ache ache ache
If that’s what its gonna take
You are gold, you are tough
We match- my style is rough
You think my dance is enough?
after just a broken cuff
Golden Walls Series
Born from a fleeting moment in a Turkish lounge, Golden Walls is a reverie—a vision of boundless joy imagined beyond barriers. Inspired by a single photograph, Sofi Gaya transforms reality into a dreamscape, where walls do not confine but become part of the dance.
The woman moves with defiance and grace, untouched by the weight of boundaries. She does not yield; she celebrates. In her movement, there is freedom, a luminous energy that turns obstacles into golden echoes of resilience. This is the essence of Gaya’s philosophy—where joy is a quiet rebellion, and the soul dances even in the face of constraint.
It is also a return to childhood—a time adorned with golden riches yet enclosed within golden walls. The contrast lingers, both opulent and elusive, a paradox of beauty and captivity.
Each piece in this rare collection is a study of light, movement, and transformation. A testament to those who seek beauty beyond limits, Golden Walls is an invitation to own not just a painting, but a piece of a world reimagined.
Dancing in the Golden Walls
“I will dance
My dance will..
break the golden walls
or melt their gold
or make me golden
Do I care? .. No
All I know you know
Is.. I will dance.”
